Cobra Image Router (CIR) 3.52 HP9100C Digital Sender
Cobra Technologies has been working comprehensively with Lotus Notes, the world's leading groupware product, since its early releases. Notes has a compound document structure, allowing it to accept many kinds of data including: text, rich text, sound, images, graphics, and video, making it a wonderful data store for scanned images. Notes also has powerful routing capabilities, ensuring quick and secure delivery of an object. In a Lotus Domino environment, Notes documents can easily and rapidly be published to a web site for viewing by a client browser over the Internet, an intranet or an extranet. Cobra Technologies uses the strong store and forward document capabilities of Notes in harmony with Cobra Image Router to rapidly scan, route, and deliver paper-based information electronically.

Cobra Image Router (CIR) works very closely with the new generation of imaging devices offered by Hewlett-Packard, the HP 9100C Digital Sender. These devices have a control panel display which is populated by CIR. Destinations are configured in CIR. A user selects a destination from the control panel and presses the start button on the Digital Sender. A destination can be any destination reachable by the Lotus Notes server which could be:
    • A Lotus Notes mail address
    • An Internet address (with Lotus SMTP/MTA)
    • A facsimile destination (with Lotus Fax Server or Domino Fax Server)
    • A web site (with Lotus Domino)
    • A Domino.Doc binder within a file cabinet

In addition, the image can be directly placed into a Notes database, perhaps to initiate a workflow application. A key new feature in CIR 3.52 allows the user to input information at the Digital Sender keyboard such as Client Name, Invoice Number, Social Security Number, etc., which will populate:
    • The Subject field in a Mail configuration
    • Any field within a specified Direct (custom Notes database) configuration; or
    • Any field in a specified Domino.Doc profile

For example, if you had a database named RESUMES, you could create a Direct configuration document that would prompt the user at the Digital Sender with the message, "Enter SSN:". When the user enters the SSN from the Digital Sender keyboard and scans to the Direct destination, the information typed in at the Digital Sender would populate the field you specified (i.e., SSN) in the form you specified (i.e., Resume).

    BENEFITS OF COBRA IMAGE ROUTER

The greatest benefit that CIR offers is the ability to break the barriers of paper-based documentation viewing and storage issues.
    • CIR places images directly into the Lotus Notes environment.
    • CIR documents can be accessed by anyone with access to a Notes network, using a Notes client or a web browser.
    • Multiple sites can view the image, eliminating the need for multiple, paper-based copies.
    • CIR can improve efficiency and save system resources, as all users can view one copy of the image, rather than multiple, stored copies.
    • CIR documents and images can be used and viewed while working remotely, increasing productivity.
    • CIR can be a key complement to any workflow involving the use of paper-based information.
    • CIR records its usage, which can be reviewed and monitored for an optimal implementation.
